Thinking About Suicide?

Suicide?

Thinking about ending your life? Please don’t, it’s not worth it. If you are feeling suicidal now, please just take two minutes out of your time to read this. I can’t promise I’ll change your mind and I can’t promise to convince you of anything, however maybe just maybe, reading this will help. Pain is only temporary. Suicide is not.

I am only someone who knows what it is like to be in pain. I don’t know you who are or why you’re reading this page. I only know that for the moment, you’re reading it and for me that’s enough. I can only assume that you are here because you’re considering suicide. I have known a lot of people who have wanted to kill themselves, including myself, so I have some small idea of what you might be feeling. I just want to put something out there: I won’t argue with you about whether or not you should kill yourself because who am I to make that call? I assume that you’re feeling very badly if reading this, but if there is one thing that I can promise: your life is worth living. Maybe if you’re reading this, it gives me the tiniest bit of hope that you’re unsure about this decision, deep down somewhere inside of you. The fact that you’re alive at this very minute leads me to believe that you’re a little unsure about ending your life. Even though some part of you may want to fade away and die, at the same time a part of you still wants to be alive. You aren’t a crazy, weak, flawed, or weird for feeling suicidal; so please don’t let anyone convince you that you are. There are five things that I want to share with you.

  1. You need to hear that people really do get through this. As unbelievable as it sounds right now, they do. Statistically, it seems impossible, but I hope it gives you at least a little bit of a sense of hope.
  2. I want you to give yourself some distance. Remember that feelings and actions are two different things- just because you feel like killing yourself, doesn’t mean that you have to do it right this very minute. You’ve already distanced your mind from the action of suicide for a few minutes by reading this, please keep going.
  3. Often people turn to suicide because they want relief from pain. However, pain is temporary and suicide is not.
  4. There are people, other than me and millions of others on Tumblr who are willing to listen and hear you out. They will not judge you, argue with you, send you to a hospital, or try and convince you out of feeling so poorly. Remember that it is okay to ask for help.
  5. Suicidal feelings are traumatic. After they subside, you need to continue caring for yourself. Try therapy, it really can help.

If you’re still reading this, please think about your family and people that love you. No, they don’t hate you. Imagine someone walking into your room and finding your lifeless body on the floor. They’ll shake you, rattle their brains to figure out what’s going on, only to realize your heart has stopped beating forever.  They’ll begin to think: “Was this them?” “Were they the reason you did this?” And your friends, people at your school, imagine the news spreading that you’d ended your life. They’re not going to care are they? Wrong. Your suicide is going to touch them the most. Even if you were just a kid they casually saw in the hallway, or someone they’d never had a conversation with in their life. Maybe you’re thinking about this because of bullying? It’s going to hit home for the kids who gave you shit at school most of all. They’ll know that they were a part of the end of your life. Don’t let them get to you because you know what? You matter. And for your funeral? Who’s going to organize it? Who’s going to have the heart to go through the stuff and the life you left behind? Your clothes, your locker, your notes, your room. If you kill yourself today, you’ll never know what’s going to happen tomorrow. You’ve caused your family and friends to become depressed, crying all day everyday. After the tears stop, depression hits full force. They don’t want to lose you, beautiful. It doesn’t matter what race you are, what religion you believe in- if you don’t believe in one at all, what your sexuality is, how tall you are, how much you weigh, etc. You are the way you are because you’re an individual. You are an incredible, beautiful, amazing individual that doesn’t deserve what they’re being put through. However, you are. It’s not your fault- don’t let anyone convince you that it is. Please don’t ever feel like you’re alone or undeserving. There’s always tomorrow and if today really is that bad? It can only go up from here. If not tomorrow, the next day. If not the next day, the next week. Never, never, never give up. If it’s not okay, it’s not the end. God will be with you 100% of the way. Please remember my dear, God only places the heaviest burdens on those he believes can bear them.  If you ever need someone to talk to, I’m only a click away.
